The study intends to give an analysis of positive as well as negative impact of a musical event which was organized in Brisbane (Atkins et al. 2013). The event was a musical conference that showcased the performance of a well-known music brand named The Script. The event was organized under the title of The Script, Brisbane edition. The event not only held in the city of Brisbane but in other cities as well. It was a prestigious event as The Script is one of the most famous brands based in London. Within a very short time span, the brand achieved massive response from its audience. It needs to be mentioned that the previous study gave the overall description of the event and other related aspects of the event. The present study continuing the discussion, sheds light on the positive and the negative impacts that the study had on environment, society and most importantly on the audience and the people related with it. Several aspects were covered in the discussion in regard to the positive and negative aspects (Catherwood and Van 2012). To understand the positive and negative impacts that the event had, triple bottom line and other principles of sustainability were used to analyze that. Additionally, the report also identifies the possible issues and challenges and gives suggestive measures in order to minimize the negative impacts of event management.

It is necessary to mention that the event falls under the category of mega event. The musical concert was held in order to attract the attention of the people of Brisbane. The event was night long musical concert and famous event management consultancy was hired. Different marketing strategies were adopted in order to do to promote the event (Catherwood and Van 2012).

Like other events, this musical also had some positive as well as negative impacts. Firstly, the event will be analyzed from the point of principles of sustainability and the triple bottom line approach (Getz and Getz 2012).

The triple bottom line approach is the method through which the sustainability can be evaluated. In the year of 1997, Elkington introduced the approach of triple bottom line. From then, the approach has been in the use in order to analyze the sustainability. The whole idea behind using the framework is to maintain the sustainability (Jones and Jones 2014). The issue of sustainability has been identified by many of the researches and the triple bottom line approach are considered to be one of the most useful methodology to evaluate the social environmental and financial aspects of an event that has been organized in order to address the issues of sustainability (Sorokina 2015). The triple bottom line analysis is useful in true sense to figure out the preventive measure for event management in future.

Environmental Impacts

To begin the discussion on the impacts of the event on environment, it must be mentioned that the event was a night long musical concert. Due to its timing, the event had a significant impact on the environment (Sorokina 2015). The high decibel sound grossly affected the people of surrounding area because of the noise which generated from the loud music. The old age people and the patients were mainly affected by the event (Mair and Whitford 2013). Thus it can be said that the event caused high noise pollution. The standard sound limit which has been directed by local civic body was not followed and the sound limit was higher than standard level. The noise pollution not only affected the old age and patients, but the children especially the infants were grossly affected (Mair and Whitford 2013). As per the records, high noise pollution causes many serious diseases like cardiovascular, hypertension and even hearing loss.

Apart from the noise pollution, the event also had many other negative impacts on environment that are worth mentioning. Huge natural resources were used for organizing the event (Jones and Jones 2014). Energy power was used in the event for the entire night which can be considered as the major exploitation of the natural resources and can have adverse effect on the environment. One of the major points that need attention is that the place, where the musical concert was held, is well equipped with air condition machines so that the audiences feel comfort while enjoying the musical event (Jones and Jones 2014). It is not undiscovered that air conditioned machines is the one of the main reason that contributes to the cause of global warming. Thus it can be said that the sustainability of the event was not maintained.

In order to discuss the social impacts again the timing will be mentioned. As the timing of the event was over whole night, most of the audiences found it difficult, while returning to home after the concert is over (Matthews 2015). The center where the concert was held in was little far from the heart of the city, so the travelling issues were there mainly after the concert. The main negative impact of the event was that it ran throughout the whole night. The brand The Script is famous among the young generation. Thus, the major section of the audience was the youth generation. The night long event was not only had a bad impact on the social culture (Mair and Whitford 2013). Most of the audiences were students; therefore it can be easily assumed that many of them did not get the permission from their parents, which is a negative impact of the social culture. Safety was another concern that was identified from while the triple bottom line n analysis was applied. In the mean time, the study said that the. As the event was over at late night, the safety issues were there for not only the young people but also for other audiences. The band performed rock music which evoked strong emotional responses (Shone 2014). One of the major social impacts of the study was that it develops social barrier between the two generations. The event had a significant impact on the young stars.

Social Impacts

As per the triple bottom line analysis, the economical impacts of the events are worth mentioning. It has been already mentioned this event falls under the cultural event which is of prestigious nature (Quinn 2013). The entire event involved a large amount of investment as well as it generated a large amount of return from that. One of the top rated event management agencies was hired. They not only arranged the event in the city of Brisbane but also in other cities of the country, thus it is very evident that organizing the event involved large amount of money. The tickets for the show were sold in high price. The event was held in the city’s one of the well-known entertainment center. The agency partnered with some other sponsors like Coca-cola, American express and so on. Around 2500 tickets were sold for the event. Whole cycles of the event were able to pool a large margin of profit. Through the event, the sponsorer brands could reach out to a large number of customer bases at the same time use this event as a platform to interact with the customers directly (Mair and Whitford 2013).

It cannot be said that the event had only negative impact; rather it had some positive impact too from the cultural front. The main purpose of the event was to the people who love music (Shone and Parry 2011). The organizers wanted to the give the audience a lifetime experience. It will be very right to assert that the event was able to bring the society together while enjoying music. In other ways, the brand also could showcase it talents before a large number of people. The event also received media recognition as the leading media houses covered the concert. Beside entertainment, the event was also the medium of marketing avenue for the sponsorer brands (Shone and Parr 2011).  The analysis states that the event was successful as it was able to achieve maximum number of audience. The positive impact of the event was evident as the audiences got the opportunity to relax from the daily hectic life (Getz and Getz 2012). Thus it can be said that the event had significant positive impact from the socio-cultural front.

The above analysis revealed that the sustainability was not maintained in the event. in regard to that, few suggestive measures were mentioned so that the issues of challenges can be addressed and avoided in future while organizing an event.

  1. In order to maintain the sustainability, event organizers must focus on event greening, which is mostly known as the sustainable event management should be initiated (Sorokina 2015). The main aim of event greening is the concern to save the environment while conserving the natural resources.
  2. Event greening incorporates practices keeping the principles of sustainability in mind. From venue to menu, everything follows the sustainable approach (Getz and Getz 2012).
  3. In order to avoid the use of air-condition machines; the event can be organized in beach side area or in an open space, so that the people can also enjoy the beauty of nature along with music (Mair and Whitford 2013).
  4. The use of the lights and must be minimum in order to conserve the power energy. In that case, solar, water or wind energy can be use as the replacement but then also, the usage of the energy needs to be optimal (Rojek 2014). Another alternative can be used by organizing the event during day time that will positively reduce the energy consumption.
  5. Safety should be topped in the priority list while organizing an event. As evident in the above mentioned case, most of the people find it difficult while returning after the concert was over (Mair and Whitford 2013). The safety risk even was high because the concert ended at midnight. The event organizer must ensure that the guests do not experience any unexpected incident.

Economic Impacts

Conclusion

Arranging an environmental friendly event is not an impossible job. However, the challenges and difficulties are petty higher in the sustainable event management. In the era of the green drive, event greening are gradually becoming popular with its acceptance all over the world. Thus the sustainable event management needs the strategic planning and time, so that a green awareness can be spread within the community.
