Designing A Multicultural Wedding – A Detailed Project Plan

Purpose

Event design is one of the major concerns of an event planner and needs to be executed in such a way that the best of the results is achieved from it. The designing of the event is mandatory to get an idea of the entire event. The event design provides a sketch for the entire event that has been held (Richards, Marques and Mein 2014). Weddings are events that have enormous emotional value to those who are involved in it. The bride and the groom wish to make the day as memorable as it can be so that they cherish the memories for their entire life. The event team has the responsibility to make sure that both the families were equally treated and were given equal share of importance in the wedding process.

The catering design is one of the most important areas that were taken care extensively in the event (Barak 2016). The food and menu makes for the most appealing area of the wedding for the people who attend it. The multicultural wedding had a well designed menu which is provided below-

Starters

Irish Stew, Potato rolls, Cheese yam balls and friend chicken wings along with mayonnaise salad.

Main course

The main course was wide and varied and it made sure that the taste of the both the communities are well served. It had- Jollof rice along with Amala and Abula. There was Lasagna, Chinese fried rice, Fish and chips. Salmon en croute, roasted pork and beef stew were served.

Deserts

Chocolate dipped strawberries, White cake with strawberry fillings, Ice cream Sundae and milkshake.

Beverages

Mulled wine, Irish coffee and Bollinger champagne.

The woodland wedding cake was used in the wedding in order to match with the entire minimalist woodland theme that was used in the wedding. The cake complimented the entire theme and made sure that the best of the theme was brought forward to the visitors. The bride and groom preferred a cake that would be huge and beautiful and the woodland cake was indeed very beautiful and the taste too was worth it (BridalGuide. 2018).

The invitation was designed according to theme of the wedding which was woodlands. The card was designed out of high quality paper and fine craftwork was done on them to reflect the theme and make a unique identity of the wedding. The ones who were invited were made to feel the essence of the woodland in the card design so that they felt an adventurous edge of the wedding.

Catering Design

The groom wore traditional kilts, which is very own to the Irish culture. This was done to enhance the multicultural nature of the event and make sure that the Irish culture was well represented in the event. The kilts enhanced the look of the Irish Groom and the plaited skirts further completed the traditional look. These entire look is the symbol of well being and prosperity of the Irish people. The bride was dressed in international Aso Ebi dress of the Nigerian tradition. The dress was reflective of their culture and it matched the entire theme of the wedding. The main emphasis of the multicultural wedding was to make sure that both the cultures were well represented in the event (Estin 2017). The dressing of the bride and groom perfectly reflects this intention of the event management team. The traditionalist approach to the wedding dress further highlights the theme of multi cultural wedding.

The car that was used for the wedding was according to the theme of the wedding. The wedding car was vintage in look and it suited the style that was implemented by the events team (Estin 2017).The wedding car that was selected for the wedding was Bramwith. The Bramwith was of brown color so that it matched the woodland theme that was being projected in the wedding. The car was decorated with green leaves at the back so that it looked like a wooden car and matched the entire environment of the wedding. The flowers that the bride carried were put in the back seat and handles of the car so that it achieved a fresh feel and the car looked like a wedding car completely.

The entertainment quotient of the wedding was kept high so that the people could enjoy themselves by attending the wedding. The event venue was divided into different sections for the entertainment purpose. The venue was managed in a way that there was a separate area for the people who would dance and a separate area for the one who preferred to listen to soft music and enjoy their wine. The floor was divided and a large area of the main hall was give to the Disc jockey who played songs throughout the wedding to match the emotions that were being displayed. The DJ floor was full of energy and people were encouraged to dance and feel the excitement of the wedding (Maz Events. 2018). A separate lounge set up was done for the guests with proper traditional Irish and Nigerian musicians were playing the traditional music turn by turn. The management of the floor was well coordinated and separated so that all the guests could enjoy themselves in the way they wished to in the multicultural wedding.

Entertainment Design

Stage design

Considering the fact that the stage design plays a major role in complementing the event decoration and bringing out the best performance, a 3D stage was designed for the above mentioned event.  The stage came alive with great lighting. In order to make dramatic changes, professional lightening was used. The lightening was done keeping in mind the mood of the performance over stage. Apart from lightening other audio visual elements that included speakers, projector and a wide screen had also been organized (Richards, Marques and Mein 2014).The widescreen that was placed in the center of the stage displayed various fun moments of the couples shot at different span of time. Not only that, the videos displayed in the widescreen was customized according to the performance of the bride and groom mates over the stage.  This had not only added wow-factor to the wedding ceremony but had also made the event eye catching and unforgettable.

The interiors of the wedding were well decorated with plants and trees in order to highlight the theme of woodlands that was picked for the wedding. The dinner area was well lit with yellow lights and shades that looked like trees and branches. The chairs and the tables were decorated in a way that emphasized the woodwork that was done on them. The main entrance was kept covered with some climber plants that left a pleasant perfume at the entrance (Taheri 2018). The entire area was constantly showered with freshness sprays that made the feel of the woods more natural and real. The environment was designed in a way that the lighting was kept at medium to dim as the lights are seen in a forest; bright light was avoided in order to make sure that the natural and real look of the event stayed intact for the audience who attended the wedding.

The production design of the wedding was done in a way that made sure that it stood out from all other weddings that the guests have previously attended. The entire location was covered with lights that wee green and wooden wallpapers were used to make sure that the event location looked like a house made of woods. The interior walls of the wedding venue were covered with paintings and other such traditional art works of both the communities. The Irish and Nigerian art was amply reflected in the wedding and they were put on the walls on both side of the wedding venue (Barak 2016). The dining area had a constant Irish band that played the Scottish melodies and wooed the crowd present there. The wedding furnishing was designed in a way that it gave the people a feel of the woodlands constantly. Artificial tree barks and stems were used to decorate and enhance the production value of the location. The exterior of the wedding venue was illuminated with green lights after the evening and the lights further strengthened the wedding design that was implemented.

The groom’s beard was set right so that a gentleman look was achieved for the wedding.

Pre wedding ceremonies

The arrangement for engagement of the couple and the bachelor dance was done. The friends and acquaintances were given separate space for this and they had fun in the entire process of bachelor process.

Stage Design

Once all this was done, it was time for the main event of wedding to begin. All the guests were brought in the part of the hall that was specially decorated for the purpose of the wedding ceremonies. The marriage took place and the bride and the groom were constantly showered with flowers once the two shared the wedding kiss. Both the families were equally catered to in the wedding process so that none of them felt emotionally disconnected with the wedding procedures. The emotions and cultures were to be taken complete care of and that was the most difficult part because it was a multicultural wedding. The organizers pulled it off brilliantly by making sure that the importance was equally divided among the people of both the communities present in the wedding.

The theme of the wedding was a woodlands theme. The theme was unique and it made the entire area look like a place in the middle of jungle and woods. The feeling was excellent as the ambience was brilliantly set up to achieve the feel of woodlands. It was seen that the organizers took efforts to make sure that the area entirely was decorated with plants and wooden texture. The wedding that was arranged for the event was also a woodlands theme cake and it further improved the entire look and feel of the event (Estin 2017). The theme was well planned as the entire area had its impact and it was seen that from the entry to the dining area, every part was designed according to the theme of woodlands. The theme of woodlands was well represented by the use of the wallpapers that was constant in the entire venue. The lighting at the dance floor was shining other than that the entire lighting was dim and cool. The wedding place was bright and had a different layer of muted color background that was used to make sure that best effect of the lighting was achieved on them.

The multicultural wedding was a success and people from both the sides were happy with the service that they received in the wedding. The event was successful and the success has to be attributed to the events team who has worked hard day and night to make sure that the best event was organized and the client was happy.
