Leadership plays a key role in understanding the prospects of the organizational performance and the manner in which the performance of the same can be enhanced through motivation of the workforce and the futuristic vision of the leader. The different leadership approaches helps in the identification of important aspects of the change in the systems of the business while operating in the international markets. Change in the systems of the organization supports the sustainability of the businesses. Therefore, the leaders of the organizations play a major role in identifying the different levels of change in the systems of the business to develop the operations as per the objectives. The different approaches of the leaders help in maintaining the proper functioning of the workforce as per the objectives of the business.

The purpose of undertaking the report is focused on the identification of the leadership roles and the manner in which it affects the proper functioning of the systems of the organization. The different challenges that are faced by the leaders while managing the organizations are being enumerated as a part of the report. The report also focuses on the roles and responsibility that I have as a leader and the manner in which I execute them as I place myself in the place of my role model.  

I am working in a retail organization where my job role is to manage the workforce as per the objectives of the business. However, I noticed that the communication systems of the organization are weak and that is affecting the coordination and integration of the workforce. I faced several issues while communicating with the employees due to the weak communication systems and the lack of an ‘open door policy’ in the organization. It has affected the proper functioning of the workforce while acting as per the objectives of the business. The enumeration of the different policies and the manner in which they can be implemented to enhance the performance of the workforce is negated due to the lack of proper communication tools. The lack of proper communicational technologies has affected the knowledge management attributes of the business while operating in the international markets. In this relation, Kark and Shamir (2013) stated that the enumeration of the proper technologies proper communication helps in maintaining the static productivity growth of the workforce.

I have been following Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple Inc. as my role model due to his capability of involving the employees into the activities that are planned by the organization. It has helped the organization in maintaining a standard rise in the productivity index while operating in the different international market scenario. The futuristic vision and the transformational leadership qualities of Cook have helped me in identifying the major job role of a leader and the manner in which the workforce can be motivated to achieve the common goal of the business. The implementation of the transformational leadership approach will be helping me to identify the issues that are faced by the employees while acting on their designated job roles and thereby bring forth modifications to facilitate the proper functioning of the employees (Braun et al. 2013). Communication is one of the major tools that will be helping me to identify the issues that are faced by the employees and thereby support the employees through the consideration of their needs.

Leadership Challenges

The adherence to the leadership role with a transformational approach has helped me in maintaining a positive image among the employees and my subordinates. The open door policy that is maintained by me has helped in making myself more approachable to the employees which has helped them in communicating the issues that are faced by them. The communication of the issues that are faced by the employees has helped in enhancing their productivity and thereby ensuring a proper workplace environment. The positive workplace environment has helped in enhancing and supporting the productivity of the organization, which is one of the major objectives of the business for their growth and expansion. Avolio and Yammarino (2013) stated that transformational leadership helps in identifying the issues that are faced by the employees and the mitigation of the same which helps in boosting the productivity and job satisfaction among the employees. Job satisfaction of the employees while performing their job roles as per the objectives of the business helps in maintaining the efficiency of their functions. On the other hand, the communicative strategy has helped me in keeping the workforce aware of the different changes in the systems of the business, which has added to the efficiency of the functioning of the organization.  The strategies that were undertaken by me has helped in ensuring the mitigation of the issues relating to the communicational disability of the organization. The mitigation of the issues has helped the organization in achieving the long term objectives of the business.

The enumeration of the transformational servant leadership role has helped me in involving the workforce in the processes of the business. It has helped me in undertaking efficient decision making systems in favour of the organization. It has also helped me in adhering to the different needs of the workforce while functioning as per the common objectives of the business (Grant 2012). The active support of the workforce has helped me in mitigating different discrepancies that are faced by the organization through the establishment of the inter- trust factors between the employees and the management of the business. Inter- trust factors between the organization’s management and the employees helps in the coordinated actions that helps in the progression of the business while operating as per the objectives of the corporate expansion in the different international markets. The actions that are undertaken by me as the leader of the organization has helped me in integrating the different departments of the organization through communication and thereby undertake possible steps for the proper functioning of the business in the international markets (Cavazotte, Moreno and Hickmann 2012).

Reflection on the practices of leadership

The Gallup test that have been taken by me have explained that the top five strengths that are possessed by me among the 34 themes are strategic theme which means that I am able to thing strategically and find the best option among the various other option. The futuristic theme which means that I look at the future and also motivate the people around me to look at the future. The restorative theme which means that I have a niche for solving hard problems. The intellection theme which means that I like to think and keep my brain active. The input theme which means that I always strive to gather new information from different sources. 

The survey that was undertaken by the management of the organization among the employees bore positive results in favour of my leadership style. Majority of the candidates in the survey supported my role as the leader of the organization as I took steps to communicate with them and thereby identify and resolve the issue that are faced by the workforce while acting on their respective job roles. It has helped the organization in maintaining the productivity of the business as per the objectives of the same. On the other hand, the leadership role that was undertaken by me has helped in actively involving the employees in the processes that are planned by the business (Wright, Moynihan and Pandey 2012). It has helped in employees the current position of the organization in the market. Job satisfaction among the employees also reflected the role I played as a motivator in the organization, which has helped in enhancing the productivity of the same while operating in the markets. The role I played as a transformational leader has helped me in bringing forth changes in the organizational structure and its functioning, which has helped in maintaining the different levels of change in the systems of the business.

The feedback that was received by my colleagues and the candidates in the survey have helped me to understand my position as a leader. Many of my colleagues and friends have appreciated the way that I would often lead a discussion or a team at my workplace and in my personal surrounding as well. The result was often a positive one as I was able to take into consideration all the factors and the characteristics of the team members with and by whom I would be performing and further completing my task. This action have led my teammates to trust me and believe me in the way that I work and lead them. This belief has made the completion of tasks more efficient and quick. The good behaviour and trust that they have got from me in return has also enabled them to let me know when I make a mistake. They have in many instances helped me to understand or overcome any difficult task or situation. All of these above reasons have helped me to evolve into a better leader and person who can be of use and can continually motivate the people around myself. The good results of the task ensures a good position of the organization in the market and help in building more efficiency of the business and its employees. It also means that I was able to set a good example among the other employees of the organization into doing better and more for their own organization. 

Analysis of Gallup Test

For years, we have learnt many leadership theories, out of which there are several theories through which I can relate myself from the feedbacks that I have received from my near ones and colleagues and from my own experience as well. Firstly, there is the trait theory which states that a leader has certain traits of a leader which a person is born with and made which helps them to become a better leader. I can relate to this theory as over the years I have helped myself to develop qualities that have enabled me to become a better leader and get a good understanding about my responsibilities and duties as a leader. Secondly, the behavioral theory states that the behaviour of the leader is of utmost importance. The behaviour of a leader is what make an able taskforce and the leader should be able to balance between the amount of importance that should be given to the task and to the people. I have been able to balance between the task and the people of my team with the understanding of this theory and have been able to inculcate a behaviour which would be favoured by my taskforce. Lastly, the most relatable theory is the transactional theory which states that there is a two way process between the leader and the team that he is leading. This is a theory is perfectly aligned with the way of my leadership as I have always believed that a leader should be one who is able to guide his team by communicating with them. A proper rewarding and punishment system should be established in a team so that the employees are able to be motivated and grow within the organization and also to realise their mistakes and rectify them for their betterment. There should also be continuous communication between the leader and the team to increase the level of trust and dependence of the team on the leader. All of these theories are closely related to my idea and my practice of leadership and I have always incorporated them into my line of work. This have helped me to be a better and able leader. 

Conclusion

I have been able to deduce from the above study that being a good leader is an important aspect of building a good organization and helping it to progress. This can also lead to a better set of employees and building a good taskforce. The themes that have been depicted in the Gallup test will help me to become a better leader and to make sure that the organization becomes a profitable one.
