Product design failures often take place within the context of the enterprise in consideration of the fact that not adequate market research is engaged in within the context of the product or the test marketing is carried out in a limited manner which further leads to limited feedback on the overall product feasibility. In this context, it becomes evident to note that the product which has been chosen for recommendations and techniques related to the improvement can be identified as the Google Glass (Google.com ,2022). The Google glass can be identified as an artificially intelligent glasses which have several benefits. The report shall understand the product design, identify the key features and understand the key issues within the product. Once the key issues have been examined, a set of recommendations and techniques to implement better design would be engaged in.

The given drawing can be identified to be the image of the Google glass. From the product images, it can be rightly identified that a black thick frame has been used which is essentially very long and broad from the right side. Moreover, the vision is disrupted with a glass and frame which holds the camera and acts as a sensor for the user. The key product features may be identified as follows:

1.The product helps in staying focused. The glass has the capability to fit in the workflow and gives way to ensuring better engagement and focus. In addition to this, through voice commands, the right application can be activated in a considerate manner.

2.The glass is also engaged in improving accuracy by accessing the training videos , images with instructions and assisting the user to engage in getting the job done in a safe manner (Relich  & Pawlewski, 2018).

3.Lastly, the product is also focused on ensuring that the user would be able to collaborate in real time. In his concern, it becomes evidently critical to understand the fact that live stream and other recordings become very easy once the related engagement is adopted.

Hence, it could be identified that there were some flaws in the product design and it becomes evident to understand that the product could not find success in relation to such flaws as identified.  According to Huang  (2018), one of the key reasons why the Google glass failed is because it lacked clarity on the reason why the product existed. In consideration with this, the designers did not clearly define or validate the solutions which the Google glass would provide for its users and the way in which the users would make use of the glasses in a systematic manner. Some of the negative aspects of the product design may be identified as follows:

  • The design was not attractive to people who want good looking and stylish products
  • The glasses would star recording the videos at any time with or without permission which could invade the privacy of the different individuals
  • Lastly, the colour was not attractive as an option
  • The design of the product was not well linked with the interface in the phones which led to inconvenience.
  • The battery life of the product could also be identified to be largely limited in nature.

Improvements which can be brought about in the product

1.Firstly, the enterprise would be required to build certain applications which are compatible to the product. For instance, if an application is built to track certain faces, the  user should be provided with a facility to engage in viewing the results on the application and engage in identifying related records in association with the same. This would give way to better efficiency and related engagements. The current system does not engage in image recognition system.

2.Secondly, the glass wearers walk into the space and often act in a manner such that other individuals become uncomfortable. As this glass design is new, people not wearing them would find it awkward if the camera in the glasses start clicking. In this context, google needs to create a series of lights which will inform the viewers and users that the glass is taking pictures and hence, the users would be able to understand the way in which the glasses are functioning which would ensure better communication with the audience (Yeo et al., 2020).

3.The enterprise would also be required to ensure that the glass wearers who are in public have an effective control of their own glass. It was identified in the feign that individuals standing beside the glass wearer, could give instructions and hence, this was troublesome. However, one way to turn this around could be identified as giving the glass user a unique name which would make it difficult for others to use the same.

4.Another issue identified with respect to the glass could be identified as the fact that the glass could not be fold small. In relation to this, it becomes evidently important to understand that the given glass has storage issues. In relation to this, it is critical that the blob of electronics near the right eye can be removed by Google and the hinges related to the visor can be folded accordingly so as to ensure that removing the glass is easier.

5.The glass power’s battery can be identified to be very weak. In relation to this, it can be assessed that the power should be extended. There may be a button where the camera may switch off in general and be active after the press of a button. This would facilitate better identification of the usage rate and save battery life. Alongside a better battery system can be installed for better communication and engagements. In relation to this, Google would be required to ensure that it is being able to grab the consumer electronic device hardware innovation with the assistance of Apple. Once this would be achieved better results can be ensured.

  1. Another key recommendation to improve the design of the glass product may be identified as the earbud support. Here it is evident to note that very often hearing from the glass has become difficult in the public places and hence, adapting the glass for the earphones or some add on appears to be critical (Herz  & Rauschnabel, 2019).

Improvements which can be brought about in the product

7.Agmented reality may also be identified as a critical addition to the product and related dimension. Here it is evidently important to understand the fact that the Google glass does not overall reality except for providing picture in picture. Hence, the Glass needs to be designed in a manner such that augmented reality can be instilled in a considerate manner. The glass should have the ability to scan the related location based on the  information as available and hence it can be well utilised for travel and museums which would be a wonderful experience for the Glass especially with respect to the pandemic.

8.Another key engagement of the endeavour may be identified as Gaming and glass. Here it is critical that Glass could be designed in a manner such as the futuristic gaming accessory which may have escaped an Xbox console. Playing games using the glass may provide the different users with the real life immersive experience which may be exciting for them.

  1. The usage of the glass would be available only in relation to the iOS integration. Here it is evident to note that working within Apple’s ecosystem would be challenging for the glass but the product design must be engaged in a manner such that it is linked with an application on iOS which would ensure that Google is being able to capture the market which is designated to the users of Apple as well (Kudina  & Verbeek, 2019).
  2. Lastly, glass to glass communication as a design which may be utilised in a systematic manner. As the glass is able to function well with phones, personal computers and the WIFI hot spots, it becomes critical that the glass communicating with other glass headsets becomes integral. This would be an interesting experience for the consumers especially during the pandemic.

Therefore, the given report has analysed and assessed the overall design of the Google Glass and the key way in which it has been engaged in by the firm. The related issues being faced by the users such as the battery life, non-fashioned design and related lack of features may also be identified as a critical point for its failure. In this context, it becomes significantly important to identify and understand the fact that the report has outlined some key recommendations which can be made for the product improvement in relation to the overall design. This would give way to better customer engagement and higher sales which would bring about better results for Google as a whole.
