Description
Hello,
I need help in sociology.
SIH Chapter 9
1. How do the concepts of property, prestige and power affect healthcare access and
utilization? Has your possession or lack of property, prestige and power ever
affected your healthcare? Has property, prestige and power ever affected the
healthcare of someone you know?
Chapter 9 – The 3 P’s
1. Thinking about Max Weber’s three components of social class, answer the following
questions:
If you were forced to choose between Weber’s three components of social class,
which component would you choose to have for the rest of your life: property,
prestige, or power?
Why?
Chapter 9 – Least Industrialized Nations
1. After reading “Thinking Critically–Open Season: Children as Prey” (Page 245),
discuss poverty in Brazil and death squads for children.
Do you think that the U.S. should get involved as we do in Africa with their AIDS
and poverty problems, in southeast Asia with Tsunami relief, and in other parts of
the world where terrorism is an ongoing threat to world peace?
Here is the CHAPTER 9 document:

Journals, Part 1
This part affords you the opportunity to apply sociological
principles to real–world events. For this part, you are asked to use
the concepts presented in sociology to explain
current
events in the news.
You must construct a journal of TEN (10) current news articles and
present them from a sociological point–of–view. The idea here is to
connect the news article to at least one sociological concept from
your book. Write your journal assuming that the reader is a lay
person, defining sociological jargon and clearly demonstrating how
each news article has something to do with sociology. Here are some
typical ideas: How does an article about
crime
relate to the sociological concepts of deviance and social control?
How does an article about family lifestyle or school performance
measures relate to the sociological concept of socialization? Does an
article about war or poverty have any connection to the sociological
concepts of politics, government, or power?
An organized journal is the key to success on this project. Start by
locating articles on the internet. Read each article and connect it to a
related term in sociology. Make sure you use a
particular sociological term only one time throughout your
summaries. Finally, define the sociological term and explain how it
relates to the article.
YOU MUST USE ARTICLES THAT YOU HAVE PERSONALLY
COLLECTED. THIS IS NOT A COLLABORATIVE PROJECT,
NOR SHOULD YOU USE ANY OTHER STUDENT’S WORK.
HOW WILL THE INSTRUCTOR EVALUATE MY WORK?
A well–constructed journal worthy of an optimal grade should meet
certain criteria:
Each article entered into your journal should be dated to
correspond with the date of the
current
semester. The source of each article should be identified at the top of
the page with a link provided.
1.
Summarize each article using 3-4 sentences.
2.
Define the sociological term(s) chosen to relate to the
articles. Do not use a particular sociological term more
than one time in your journal.
3.
Clearly explain how each article relates to a sociological
concept.
4.
Provide 10 journal entries for this part.
5.
(Note: Criteria 2–5 should be clearly specified
categorically in your journal.)
An example of what I want follows:
