Promoting Hand Hygiene In Healthcare Organizations: Issues, Challenges, And Strategies

Background of the Issues

The main focus of this paper is to identify the issues and challenges which is continuously facing by the healthcare organizations due to lack of adoption of successful interventions and hygienic prospects. It is very much crucial for both patients and nurses to consider different hygienic aspects in terms of hand hygiene as in maximum cases the infections spread from unhygienic clinical environment. After a critical analysis the findings that are generated are also elaborated in this paper.

This study is focused on comparative effectiveness of intervention for successfully promoting hand hygiene in the healthcare industries. The accomplishment of this aims can evaluate the health condition of all pertinent. In addition to this, it will help the other interventions that are helpful for promoting the hand hygiene in amongst the current workers associated to the healthcare industry. However, the issues that are discussed in this paper deals with lack of healthcare aspects such as hand hygiene which may lead the health condition of the workers under huge deterioration.

  • First of all, it is defined that for most of the cases of evaluation of interventions for promoting the purpose of hand hygiene by the usage of the non-randomized study design.
  • Secondly, in order to promote the activities of hand hygiene there was huge variation amongst the studies.
  • Lastly, the approach lacks the direct head to head intervention comparison.

Importance of the issues

These issues are needed to be analyzed from the clinical aspects as it will help the patients and nurses to obtain a hygienic environment in the healthcare units such as in the intensive care unit, critical care unit etc.

At a certain time point globally many people were found to be affected due to unhygienic condition of the healthcare organizations.  These infection results huge morbidity as well as are also associated along with the enhanced morality (Luangasanatip et al. 2015). The main reason behind the contamination is direct contact between the health workers and the patients. It is believed that, this is the extreme primary route of transition for different organism that may lead the patients to become highly colonized or even infected.  The multi model strategy is consists of five different components such as system change, training, education, feedback based in observations, hospital safety climate and reminders to the hospitals (Stewardson et al. 2016). Considering successful behavioral theory some strategies are to be added to the existing applications. Recently, in order to improve the hand hygiene and compliance relative other strategies are also being incorporated hospitality settings. The issues associated to the healthcare industries are as follows:

According to (Rodriguez et al. 2017) that re-analysis of data will give the workers and patients possible solution. High quality non randomized design study and randomized trials will restrict the issues of hand hygiene of the healthcare industries. The authors have done huge investigation over these issues and the current situation of the healthcare organizations. The indirect comparison between all the interventions will become easier and errors free with the application and implementation of network Meta analysis. It is learned that cost effectiveness is another important aspects that has to be considered by the owners to make sure that the hygiene of the clinics are not being compromised neither by the workers and nor even by the workers. Quantitative data analysis method is conducted by the researchers to reveal all the hidden facts associated to this research topic.

Summary of the Findings

The aim of this chosen paper is focused to study details for exploring their perception or hygienic behavior in critical care units for maintaining a well ambiance (Sadule-Rios and Aguilera 2017). In this paper it is also illustrated that the nurses have selected higher level of workloads, under staffing as the main issues. These issues are required to be resolved by the nurses to make sure that, the hygienic condition is under control. Huge identifies are identified while accessing the sinks and lacks those are located appropriately. The nurses have also identified that, usage of hand sanitizers are also important in critical unit care for maintaining the hygiene compliance (Hand Hygiene Australia 2017). Nursing understaffing is another major challenge associated to the healthcare industry that is also elaborated in this paper. In addition to this, this article gives elaboration in the literature review regarding the barriers of the hand hygienic compliance.

A set of recommendations regarding the challenges are also illustrated in this paper. The necessity of listening and valuing the healthcare units are also emphasized on this study. This application will help the workers to keep themselves engaged to their job roles so that they can process activity towards improvement of the hygiene compliance (Luangasanatip et al. 2015). The research work is focused in two different questions and it is the responsibility of the working associates to improve the current unhygienic condition in the clinical industries. In order to conduct this study the researchers are adopting two different research design approaches such as descriptive and exploratory.  It is expected that if the researchers have successfully identify the barriers or issues of the critical care unit then the current condition can be equally improved.

In order to conduct this research work the researchers have make a quantitative analysis for gathering data from the participants. Apart from this, the nurses will also be give recommendations for enhancing the hand hygienic compliances.  From the institutional review board the researchers are needed to get approval (Dai et al. 2015). For minimizing the rate of overall risks related to participants properly the questionnaires are to be answered. However the questionnaires are needed to be all completed submitted anonymously by the participants. The quantitative data for the research work are all collected from the research institutions.

Though, at the very initiation phase the interest rate of the nurses working in the hospitals are all will be captured and based in that their recommendations and suggestions for the clinical associates. Descriptive statistics were also being used in this paper for summarizing the questionnaire response (Hand Hygiene Australia 2017). The data analyses are done with the help of the SPSS data analysis.  During the one month of study period this specific questionnaire survey are completed by the researchers. Though, the main issue that has been faced by the researchers is occurred because the survey was conducted while the study was facilitated. The condition of the clinics and the way through which the microbes can contaminate to the human bodies and spread infection as well are all illustrated and investigated in this paper.

Critique of the Literature

Hand hygiene is referred to as a most cost effective measure that helps to reduce the rate of microbe transmission between the human bodies (Rodriguez et al. 2017). As evidence based model for the microbes transmission among the human bodies are very much crucial for improving the compliances. In order to implement the respective solution different choice of solution are given. Among them the users are allowed to choose the most suitable one for the patients and clinical workers (Rodriguez et al. 2015). The samagainple size of the research was calculated considering the hand hygiene proportion which is again equal to the 50 %f the overall control period. N this article the authors have considered a numbers of cluster needed for testing hypothesis was 10 or 11. While gathering data from the different resources some ethical aspects are also being considered by the researchers and rest of the research team members.

The characteristics of the HCW are also elaborated in this article. It helps the researcher to find out the overall rate of intervention effect in the workers and the patients of intensive care unit (Stewardson et al. 2016). Moreover, it can be said that hand hygiene is very much important for the patients of ICU as their body immunity power already started deteriorating with the progressive time period. Again the time of proper exposure to other sites are also customary for intervention and also at the exposure time.
