Five years ago I started my career as a professional nurse. Social duties that are carried out by a professional love have always inspired me to take up this profession. There is high level of motivation that is involved in the process that helps me to develop myself as one of the skilful registered and professional laws and provide support to the people of the society. Serving for improving the health of the society has been the greatest satisfaction of my life as I started my career. It is the duty of the nurse manager to provide the motivation that is needed to overcome challenges in the workplace. The intrinsic level of motivation is considered to be Highly Effective and helps to improve the performance of the employees of an organization. In spite of the challenges that I face during the first few years of my nursing career, I have been able to deal with consequence with high level of efficiency. With the help of the skills that I learned as a nurse, I have been able to motivate myself and establish myself as a reputed professional nurse.

On the very first month of my placement, I was allocated to do nursing duty in the recovery room of the hospital. In this department, I had to deal with the patients, who had undergone surgery and had to encounter critical level of pain. It was challenging for the young kids to recover from the pain of surgery. However, with my effective nursing skills, I have been able to provide a high level of motivation to the young kids that helped in their recovery stage. One of the main issues that I had to face with young children is communicating with them. As the kids are unable to express through proper mode the trouble they are facing, it was challenging for us to understand their trouble (Riley, 2015). The stress that is associated with taking care of the critically ill patients, who are admitted in the recovery department, is associated with burnout kind of experience.

One of the main duties of the professional nurse is to provide high level of social extrinsic motivation to the people, who are suffering from all kinds of critical pain and illness.

The social motivation is one of the main components of the nursing duty (Amann & Diener, 2015). The extrinsic motivation within the duty of the nurse helps them to get the reward for their job and also ensure that they get all types of benefit. The reward system of the nurse is also one of the main points for providing high level of motivation.

The Challenges Faced by Professional Nurses

One of the main components of the extrinsic motivation is that it is provided from outside. The external reward that is provided to the employees of organization encourages them to improve their working skills and also imply full potential in the workplace (Burgess et al., 2014).

The reward in the form of recognition and money that is provided to the workers helps them to seek the attention of the management of an organization.

In my workplace, the extrinsic form of motivation has been one of the major driving forces. One of the main challenges that are associated with extrinsic motivation is that the employees do not get the chance to get motivated from internal sources and hence, the managers of a company do not get the chance to interact the employees and provide them with motivation.

From my previous experience in the workplace as a nurse, I have been able to get the idea about the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic form of motivation level.

As a nurse, of the recovery department I generally have to get self-motivated rather than depending on some external source of the motivation. The training that is provided to us in the nursing school has helped to keep self-motivated even during the time of burnout. I remember that during the time when one accident patient got admitted in the first week of my job, I was highly nervous to deal with that patient. The critical condition of the patient forced me within a stress like situation. However, with time I was able to adjust myself with those critical scenarios and thus able to improve my level of expertise.

One of the main sources of my motivation for me was the time, when a patient is fully able to cure and get back in the course of normal life. Hence, by successful recovery of the patients, it is possible for a nurse to gain motivation from the workplace.

The positive working environment is one an essential part of all types of organization that helps in the motivation of the employees and also allows them to make positive contribution in the matter of improving the overall performance. It also helps in the psychological and social development of the organization. It is also important for the management of an organization to ensure that the positive work force balance of the organization. It is also possible for the management of the organization to maintain a healthy working and professional relationship with all the workers. This positive relationship between employees and employer is one of the main components of the success that helps to increase the reputation of the organization.

The Importance of Extrinsic Motivation in the Workplace

As I gained experience in the field of nursing, it is now possible for me to deal with the low level of motivation within the workplace. I have seen many of my colleague and health care workers, leaving the jobs as they are not able to deal with the stress and the burnout like situation. I think retention of the old and experienced employees can be considered as one of the important success factors of the company. Lower the number of employees leaving an organization, higher is the chance of their success.

One of the high point and positive side of the organization that I had been working was the role that was played by the nurse leaders. In spite of the fact that they did not provide with high level of motivation, the managers frequently used to hold meeting, where they took suggestions from our end for improving the condition of the workplace.

The positive work environment in the health care organization will help in the positive development of working psychology and also affect the working capability of individual workers and nurse in the critical care unit of the hospital. The use of positive workplace psychology in the workplace is one of the main components of success that is used by much organization to deal with the stress challenges in the workplace.

High level of motivation from the workplace of my organization has been one the main driving force for the duty that I perform. The pursuit of nursing knowledge has been one of the prime sources of intrinsic motivators that help the nurse to deal with all types of practices related to patient care.

The nurse managers of the organization also help in the matter of providing responsibility within the nursing staffs. As I have higher level of responsibility for the hospital, it helped to motivate me for improving the decisions making capability and also to helped me to deal with the critical situations in the hospitals. With the help of better decision making capability, it is possible for me to increase the level of confidence of and enhance the leadership quality. We were also provided with regular break from the works, which helped us to get the relief from the tremendous level of work pressure.

The intrinsic level of motivation that is provided to the workers also helps them to accomplish the duty at any position of the workplace. For a nurse, accomplishment can be achieved during the time, when a patient is fully recovered and gets back to the course of normal life.

During my time as a professional nurse my main duty was to provide support to the surgeons, who conducted critical surgery to the patients. I also had the responsibility to act swiftly and immediately during all types of emergency critical situations. My timing of the job was also variable as for two weeks in every month I had to work at night shift of the hospital. For five long years I was appointed as junior and assistant level of nurse and after that as I gained expertise and knowledge, I was promoted to the post of nurse manager.

The experience that I gained as a professional nurse has helped me to become one of the successful nurse managers in the present days. I use the theories of intrinsic motivation in order to encourage the young and inexperienced nurse. Due to the fact that most of the people are unable to deal with the consequence of burnout experience, it is my duty to provide full support and help them to deal with the challenges.
