University of Illinois at Chicago Form of the Building Autobiography

Description

This is the second part of a three-part semester-long project. In this phase, you will take on the perspective of one of the buildings you identified in the first part of the semester project. You will create the building’s short semifictional “autobiography” one year after it was built, explaining the specific forces that created it, the context where it appears (in the past), and how it was used. You will call on facts about the neighborhood or city that you discover through external research.Requirements1. Write an 800-word autobiography of your building that must:—Discuss why and how it (you!) came to be, even if you’re guessing/speculating —Discuss its “current” use (again, writing from one year after it was built)—Be grounded in at least three facts (dates, names, etc.)—Incorporate an analysis of the form of the building

Block Shape and Neighborhood type
According to most features present in my block’s apartments, I would say that my
neighborhood type is the Greek Revival housed neighborhood. From most of the roof-wall
junction styles, my neighborhood houses have small cave overhanging with a sweeping bang of
trim below. Some of the houses have roof forms with a low pitch side gable. The door structures
are rectangular transom which represents Greek revival houses. In some buildings, the support
porch clearly shows the buildings are of Greek Revival, while others have classical and
simplifying columns. The windows are also large with bold muntin, and some have two over two
panes and others six over six panes.
