Project scheduling is important for proper execution.  The planning steps that should precede the total program scheduling include the feasibility study and the requirements gathering. The different steps associated with project scheduling include evaluation of the project goals, defining the project activities and proper sequencing of the project activities. In my own project, in order to ensure that the project stakeholders have a complete knowledge about the project progress, I developed a project communication plan that is followed by the project team members in communicating the important project progresses.

There are certain defined communication vehicle that is followed by each project team members in order to ensure that the project progress and the important information are properly communicated to the team. Apart from email and phone calls, social media plays an integral role in communication the important project information to the project team. Social media furthermore helps the project stakeholders in getting daily updates about the progress and important project information.

However, regular meetings are an essential part of project communication. This is because, regular meetings help in discussing the issues and concerns associated with a particular project. It is not always possible to ring everyone by phone especially when the team is huge. Development of the work breakdown structure of a project includes identification of the different project requirements. These project requirements are scheduled and planned according to the time allocated for completion of the project. Proper understanding of the project requirements is therefore essential in order to develop an accurate work breakdown structure.

The choice of type of Wbs depends on the type of project. For example, in case of very long projects, the time phased WBS is used.

This week’s learning has provided me with a detailed understanding of the importance of work breakdown structure in successful implementation of a project. The learning further gave an understanding of the role of project manager and the functional manager in ensuring project success.

The steps involved in development of a work breakdown structure include understanding of components of the project, determining on how long it will finish each task and checking whether the activity will be completed within the set schedule.

Project management methodology can enhance project planning by defining the process of implementation and handling of the project.

This week’s learning gave an overview of the different concepts of project management including the project specification and work break down structure. It further helped me in understanding the concepts of SOW and configuration management.
