Teamwork in the health care sector ensures the safety of the patients, and having good communication with patients will support them in getting quality health care (von Knorring et al. 2020). This essay will focus on the importance of teamwork and leadership, effective communication while dealing with patients with mental health problems such as depression and anxiety, and dealing with reduced medication errors. A good team can be developed through effective communication along with some of the approaches that follow ethical values. The different strategies should be made by considering the patient at the top or patient-centred approaches (Welp et al. 2018). Maintaining correlation with the patients and family members will help combat the adverse situation. Health care teams with good communication can work collaboratively, which will help minimize errors and improve clinical performance (Gleddie et al. 2018). Medication errors usually occur due to incorrect medication, dose omission and inaccuracy in administration techniques.

The impact of teamwork in enhancing interprofessional practice in clinical settings has resulted in the development of leadership qualities. The care setting for helping the people with stress and anxiety recognize the anxiety level, making effective communication with the patient, listening to the patient patiently, offering empathy, and helping the patients relax. Active listening is important because it helps in understanding the actual situation and conditions for the patients what they want to convey (Boström Et Al. 2020). I, along with my mentor, helped the patients who have mental health problems such as depression and anxiety through personal visits and communication through effective communication (Bullington 2019).

A patient has been suffering from depression and anxiety because one of their close family members had expired. Medical staff or health care providers should be able to form an always culture; they should identify the requirements and discuss the plans, preferences, and plans for the patients’ discharge. Written health information can be provided to the patients, including the side effects and medications that a patient needs to take to reduce the medication errors. Patients and family members are required to be vigorously involved during the time of discharge planning. Some examples of these errors in medical health care systems are communication problems, inadequate information, human problems, patient-related problems, technical problems, staff patterns, and workflow. Sometimes grief and depression coexist, and the person seems to be observed to have stress and anxiety (Ahmad et al. 2018). Few of the environmental factors have been involved in depression. Depression and anxiety can be treated through effective leadership, teamwork and communication. NHS is expanded as National Health Service, which is located in England, and this has been very effective in providing public health services under government administration (Koutsimani 2019). This service has provided benefits to many of the general practitioners and physicians to provide primary care. Patient experience provides evidence for the health care sector or any medical staff concerning the quality of care (Lee 2019). While going to the patients with severe depression and anxiety, the nurse has made the communication with the patient so effective such as she asked so many questions to the patients to make the patient comfortable (Rosen et al. 2018). The nurse has faced many challenges while communicating with the patient, such as sometimes the patient becomes blank and do not respond properly, and sometimes the patient becomes emotional that the patient does not provide a proper explanation, and in this way, wrong medication is provided to the patients. The nurse sang a song and made eye contact with the patients so that patient could become alert. Active listening is vital for maintaining patient rapport. There was no interruption while the patient was telling his story to the nurse, and the nurse asked the patient if he wanted to write down something on notes; she could help him. These kinds of behaviour assisted in conveying attentiveness. Teamwork or collaborative work has proven beneficial in treating severely depressed patients (Hammarberg et al. 2019). Though some of the barriers can be there, such as aggressive behaviour of the patients, this requires a team that can deal with the patient. The collaborative technique involving psychologists, psychiatrists, and nurses has been very important in dealing with patients with depression. Nurses and other medical staff should be well educated about drug interactions that can produce some allergies in the body, so it should be well studied so that any further errors can be prevented.

Inadequate Information flow (Medication error)

The flow of the information should be sustained by the hospital staff while discharging the patients. The medicines and other prescriptions should be clearly explained to the patients so that they can take care post-discharge at their homes. The health care providers should communicate more effectively about the steps of discharging. All the instructions should be made clear and repetitive for admission and discharging the patients (Hammarberg et al. 2019). Medical staff or health care providers should be able to form an always culture; they should identify the requirements and discuss the plans, preferences, and plan for the patients’ discharge. Written health information can be provided to the patients, including the side effects and medications that a patient needs to take. Patients and family members are required to be vigorously involved during the time of discharge planning (Gleddie et al. 2018). While sending the patients home, the families should be provided with a detailed plan for further medication, and if there is a requirement for the next visit, the patients and families should be informed (Gleddie et al. 2018). This supports improving or making better adherence during discharge instructions. This will help in improving better health care results. When patients return to their homes, doctors and nurses should make a clear list of diet and medications so that patients can easily understand and can follow them. Every instruction needs to be clearly explained by nurses about the dosage, purpose of taking medicine and the side effects.

Various kinds of research methodologies are found; for this study, qualitative secondary data analysis will be done, the information can be collected through various journals and books (Umanailo 2019). There are several advantages in secondary data analysis as it will save time for researchers. Secondary analysis can also be carried out through the assistance of government data. Data from various government sites can be very useful and authentic (Bartz- Beielstein et al. 2021).

The previously published through different researchers will help analyze the data, which will support the inclusive effectiveness of the research that is required to be carried out. The secondary data analysis will support in simpler workflow, and it will also be helpful in applying theoretical knowledge and some experimental designs. The main objective of this study is to identify the barriers developed due to lack of communication in nursing and the effect of teamwork and leadership in nursing. The important principle, guidelines, and policies on teamwork are shared goals, clear roles, mutual trust, effective communication and measurable results. Through shared goals, the team will include the patient and the medical staff to clearly articulate the issues created in the health care system. Clear roles should be provided to nurses or each member of the team so that they can get their roles and responsibilities towards their work.

Some of the strategies required for execution to shrink medication error in health care organizations; nurses and medical staff should be educated concerning the mutual causes of the medication errors. The medical staff carried different tools to support the safe medication prescription. It should be safeguarded that pharmacists are proactively revising the progression of medication. A computerized system requisite is used as it may help in dropping errors (Rodziewicz et al. 2021). Research must be accompanied on medication errors to progress better mediations to lessen the errors in health care systems. The participation of the patient and the family members is significant to improve the patient’s safety. Family members support permitting patients to talk what are the symptoms so that appropriate treatment can be done. Checklists can be prepared to display the safety of patients, and in this way, patients can be provided with medications on time (Sarfati et al. 2019). Data quality also warrants the perfection in safety measures as it will upkeep in regulating the risks and identifying the strategies for improvement. A few of the benefits involved in interprofessional collaboration is that it helps in the closing of the communication gaps between the team members and with the patients. It supports in promoting the team mentality and in patient-centred care. Effective mental health care can be provided to the patient through the interprofessional team (Senders 2018). The involvement of the different medical professionals will improve mental health issues. The interprofessional teams work in a collaborative manner to treat mental health problems. Work role performance sometimes affects the behaviour of the team members, but team leaders can assist in increasing proficiency, adaptivity and proactivity.

Guidelines and policies on teamwork and its impact on nursing practice

Cooperation in teamwork is important for doing any task for completion, and through teamwork, the disorders can be treated effectively and with less time. The nurses, doctors, and specialists discussed or communicated about mental health issues and made their team effective performance. The importance of teamwork in nursing is to provide quick services to a large number of patients suffering from various disorders. Solid communication makes the patients feel comfortable, and they also feel more satisfied with the health services provided to them (Fatima et al. 2018). Team working has shown effective results because of some factors such as positive leadership, management, good communication strategies. The complex care in the treatment of mental health issues while involving the multidisciplinary teams, the team include different expertise and skilled professional in managing the mental health issues.

A nursing associate is usually a new member that joins a nursing team that support providing care to the patients. The practices are carried out in order to remove the gaps between health and care assistants. Mental health settings help in the implementation of clinical activities and in delivering the quality of care. Workshops can be established in an interactive mental health network. A questionnaire can be put at the workshops to access the different kinds of mental health issues among people (Torous et al. 2018). The roles and responsibilities of mental health nursing as a nursing associate are in assessing the patients and discussing their different kinds of mental health issues such as stress, depression and anxiety. Providing treatment with the help of leader nurses and ensuring the correct medication is provided to the patients. A patient record can be prepared as instructed by the leader nurse (Rodziewicz et al. 2021). As a nursing associate, the main points that can be considered important in providing care for patients are staying aware of the condition and active listening.

The barriers in the treatment of mental health issues and in minimizing the medical errors are communication, the inadequate flow of information, some technical errors. All these are the barriers that can impact providing better treatment. The behaviour and skills of nurses can be improved through proper education. Medication reviews are essential that upkeep the estimation for perfection in the health results, and some of the interventions can be applied to reduce the errors (Sarfati et al. 2019). Education is a vibrant aspect for refining the safety-related alarms of the patients.

Conclusion

Compulsory training can be offered to the medical staff of the health care organization regarding the errors and adverse events in hospitals. When there is an upsurge in early symptoms, nurses and medical staff should confirm the delivery of safeguards and diverse medications to lower the errors. With the progress of communication, sympathy, respect and teamwork, one can learn their misinterpretation or error in the hope diminish infections and medication errors. The flow of information should be suitable and better prescription can help the patients effectively. A good team leader supports the other team members’ ineffective treatment of any disorder, establishes good relationships with the patient and identifies the actual problems of the patients.
