  1. Cost and Management Accounting is a special part of accounting process which deals with an important aspect of business such as costs, management reports (Hilton & Platt, 2013). The various aspects which should be present in an individual who is applying for the position are given below:
  • The most basic requirement for the position is that the individual has appropriate knowledge and competencies of the individual in order ton establish if the individual is fit for the job or not.
  • In addition to this, another requirement for an individual is to possess necessary analytical skills which are used by management and cost accounts on day to day basis. The person should also know how to prepare budgets and also analyze the same budget (Alviniussen & Jankensgard, 2015). On the basis of such budgets various important decisions are taken by management.
  • In addition to this, the cost and management accounting requires proper understanding of the financial framework and the different categories of costs which might vary from business to business as per the nature of the company.
  1. The less common knowledge required for the application of cost and management positions are:
  • The requirement for tax knowledge for the position of cost and management professionals are least common as management and cost professionals are responsible for maintain their respective domains and tax management comes under different purview itself. Moreover, individuals need to have special knowledge in tax provisions for any position in tax department. Therefore, the skills which management and cost personnel should have knowledge of their fields, analytical powers, clear interpretation of the financial statement (Fullerton, Kennedy & Widener, 2013).
  1. Management accounting professionals are associated with mostly internal functions and preparation a report of management which can be used for decision making process. The various problems which are faced by the management in case of management accounting are discussed below:
  • Management and cost personnel are responsible for effective representation and preparation of different types of budgets which if incorrectly estimated can affect the entire decision-making process and in addition to this there is always a question on the accuracy of the estimation process of judgments (DRURY, 2013).
  • The job of a management accountant or cost accountant is to collect various data which can be used to incorporate the report of the company. This is a hectic process and therefore the management accounting should be kept separate from financial accounting (Lavia López & Hiebl, 2014).
  1. The topics which are covered in ACCT 6004 and which were learned while following this assignment are given below in point form:
  • Recognizing and analyzing the data which are available to cost and management accounting professionals
  • Identifying and analyzing the ethical issues which are face in an organization
  • Application of various techniques of cost accounting to evaluate, calculate and ascertain a particular cost of the business.
  • Interpretation of the financial information which are present in the financial statement for the purpose of taking managerial decisions on the basis of the same.
  • Explaining the significance of management accounting in an organization and the role management and cost accounting process plays in the overall development of the business.
  1. As per my opinion, the topics which were covered in ACCT 6004 did not cover the basic concepts which are used in management accounting as the technical base is very important which ACCT 6004 missed out. In addition to this, for every indirect cost, allocation of costs is very important which is not covered in ACCT 6004. These are the important topics which should have been included in ACCT 6004 for better understanding and also a systematic understanding at the same time.
