Lessons Learnt Document For Project Management Excellence

How I planned to gather and document lessons learnt

The lessons learnt are good for the project team, organization and future projects.  These lessons learnt document provides with documented information which reflect on positive and negative aspects of the project work.  It represents organization’s commitment of the project management excellence and opportunity of project manager to learn proper experiences of others. This paper is capture and review of lessons learnt at end of this project. It is explored of various levels of lessons learnt and provided solutions to assist with transition from the current to next level. It is required to wait for project end for learning to be occurred. It is identified at point throughout the project. It is conducted at various timeframes based on project complexity. The project work is considered base on PPMP20008. In this lesson learnt document, various frameworks are being developed. Common lesson learnt are done throughout the learning processes and improvement strategies are also done to address issues and improvement over future project. There are three lessons learned are project risk management, project communication management and project quality management plan.

By end of week 3, I planned to identify the lessons which I learnt from the course work.

The group team members are planned to involve into process to gather of lessons.

The lessons are documented by critically analyse and define the actions for addressing uncertainties into the project.

What actually happened?

When I identified and collected lessons learnt

Who I involved in the process of gathering lessons

How I documented lessons

By end of week 4, I learnt to identify the project risks to control of uncertain events on the project.

The group team members are planned to involve into process to gather of lessons.

The lessons are documented by conducting the risk management activities.

lesson 1

1. Situation

2. The situation made me feel…

3. What I learnt from reflecting on the situation

Project risk management is done to analyse occurrence as well as effect of the positive events and negative events into the project work.

That I feel happy by identification of project risks and events those can provide a high impact on the project work. Therefore, identification of project risks is based on the bad effects on project success.

I learnt to manage the project risk by planning, analysing, identifying and controlling the uncertain events on project.

1. Improvement strategy

2. How to measure if the strategy works

3. Why the strategy is achievable

4. Relevance of strategy to address the lesson

5. When the strategy will be implemented

The specific improvement strategy is risk management plan. It is such a document which foresees the risks, estimation of project impacts and defines the responses to the project issues.

I would know the strategy was working as I could measure as well as document the impact of risks. I would perform of qualitative and quantitative risk analysis to prioritize the project risks.

This strategy is achievable for me because I performed of quantitative risk analysis to assign numerical values to the risk. It is a method to quantify the risks to determine probability for achieving the cost and schedule for the project objectives.

This strategy is relevant to lesson 1 as it will address a process to identify, quantify, mitigate the risks affect the company’s strategies and objectives.

I will implement this strategy by 3rd of September, 2018 as per scheduled plan.

2. The situation made me feel…

3. What I learnt from reflecting on the situation

Project communication management is required to ensure distribution of information and disposition of the project information to the project stakeholders. The project manager is responsible to communicate with the stakeholders. Various information methods are used to share of information among the project team.

I am happy that I have learnt how the communication plan is implemented with precise communicational plan and higher degree of flexibility. I faced of communicational issues into the project.

I learnt about various communicational methods which are used to transfer of information from one person to another. The plan determines informational requirements of stakeholders and defines the communicational approach to satisfy the project requirements.

3. Why the strategy is achievable

4. Relevance of strategy to address the lesson

5. When the strategy will be implemented

The specific improvement strategy is communication plan. It determines communicational requirements of project stakeholders by determination of who needs what type of information, when it is required and how and from whom it gets.

I would know the strategy was working as I could measure the stakeholder communication requirements, technologies used to convey of information and escalation processes. I updated and refined the communication management plan as the project is progressed.

This strategy is achievable for me because it demonstrates how the information are transmitted as well as received among the sender and receiver.

This strategy is relevant to lesson 2 as it will address the issues related to communication. It helps the stakeholders to understand the project benefits as well as risks which are associated with project. I have used of communicational methods to interact with the stakeholders.

I will implement this strategy by 15th September, 2018.

3. What I learnt from reflecting on the situation

Project quality management plan documents the information to manage the project quality from the project planning. It defines the quality of project and criteria for areas of application and responsibilities.

That I am happy with the quality assurance plan which describes the standards and tools to achieve quality in delivery of project work. I faced issues of identifying the project success before project release.

Quality management of project enhances the product or service which has ability to perform and measure the process quality. I learnt that project plan contains of required requirements to implement and ensure that quality assurance for validating the project work.

 lesson 3: improvement strategy

1. Improvement strategy

2. How to measure if the strategy works

3. Why the strategy is achievable

4. Relevance of strategy to address the lesson

5. When the strategy will be implemented

The specific improvement strategy is quality management strategy defines quality methods and standards applied to achieve necessary quality levels. The strategies are prepared to initiate the project and approve by the project board.

I would know the strategy was working as I could measure the quality levels of the project plan if it would meet with the project requirements. It arguments with the project approach and regarded in response to quality of customer’s expectations.

This strategy is achievable for me because I used of quality metrics as measurements of value and performance of the products.

This strategy is relevant to lesson 3 as it will address the value and performance of services and processes. It improves development and maintenance activities of the project work. The steps come up with the quality metrics are measured the product and quality processes. The project goals are expected to achieve into the future study. Strategies are increasing the chances of project success.

I will implement this strategy by 19th September, 2018.

Conclusion

It is concluded that the lessons learnt framework shaped the project in proper manner so that the issues are identified properly throughout reflection process. SMART strategies are developed to address of the issues so that the future work are better and successfully done. The lesson learned is focused to identify the project success, project failures and recommendations to modify the project performance. The project management processes improvements are done which are identified as lessons for learned. I set up the lessons learnt to make the lessons learned reports which are available to the project team members. I need to delicate the resources to perform analysis of documented lessons learnt. I have shared with various levels of lessons learned and solutions to utilize the project initiation work. I have provided with justifications for importance of the lessons learned to review and analyze on daily basis. The final step to make sure about the lessons learnt is commitment from the senior level managements. It supports to make improvement over negative and re-occurrence of the project trends. Recommendations to enhance to the organizational processes and also procedures for best practices are available to perform the project work. The lessons learnt are making as part of the procedures and expected deliverables from the project management as well as project methodologies. It makes sure about the project team to document of areas of improvements for next project. It ensures about lessons learnt program from the senior level management.
