  1. Common management and cost skills –
  • Most common requirement for the position of cost accountant or management accountant as mentioned in above part are ability for preparing the annual budget, analysis of monthly financial performance and performing strategic analysis.
  • The above mentioned skills are required for as the position of cost accountant or management accountant asks for the ability to make comparison of the company’s financial performance with other companies, taking appropriate decisions whenever required, these activities can be accomplished only with the knowledge of budget preparation and the ability to analyses financial performances. Further, for the post of accountant whether the cost accountant or management accountant the knowledge of analysis is required as the financial statement plays important role in measuring the company’s performance and the knowledgeable person can help in financial statement preparation and analysis of the statement.

  1. Challenges in management account profession

Management accounting profession is associated with the internal business function and it recognizes various issues associated with the internal cost for making sound business decisions (Fullerton, Kennedy & Widener, 2013). Further, the manufacturing and production companies use the services of management accountant to prepare their financial budget, allocation of production cost to various items. Various issues faced by the management accountant are as follows –

  • Features – budgeting are used by the management for making various crucial decisions. However, if the budgets are not prepared appropriately it will misstate various financial data and will lead to inefficient decision making. However, it is not always possible to estimate the amount accurately for preparation of budget (Eldenburg et al,. 2016).
  • Facts – management accounting job is associated with the challenges like collecting, recording and reporting of financial data accumulated from various sources. Moreover, the allocation of overheads requires proper knowledge and additional information (Brooks, 2015). However, it is not always possible to gather the exact information from various sources.
  1. Topics in ACCT 6004

Different topics learnt from the topic of ACCT 6004 are mentioned below –

  • Identification and analysis of data
  • Analysing ethical issues in the organization
  • Application of cost accounting technique to calculate various cost related data and analyse it.
  • Evaluate the quantitative and qualitative information to make managerial decisions (Alviniussen & Jankensgard, 2015).
  • Explaining nature and importance of management accounting and the role and responsibilities for management accountants.
  1. According to my analysis the major requirement for cost management that was missed while the subject was taught in the topics covered under ACCT 604 was the allocation method of cost over various products while the manufacturing is taken place. The knowledge of cost allocation would have made the management accountant or cost accountant more efficient while making various crucial decisions. Further, the process costing that is the cost allocation while the product needs more than one process for to get manufacture are not been taught. Therefore, these topics should have been included under the topics of ACCT 6004.
